MAAG Workshop/Class Instructors Information

MAAG is planning to have workshops (one or two sessions- a few hours or all day) and classes (3 or more classes ½ hour to 2 hours) for all ages starting in June.  These classes will be held in the Art Garage on Carpenter Lane, Allen’s Lane Art Center, Summit Presbyterian Church or other sites if needed.  In doing a review of courses available in the NW section of Philadelphia I found that there are many courses for painting and drawing for all ages.  There are few, if any courses for specialty crafts (i.e photography, leather works, pottery, bookmaking, etc.).

Instructors will set the fee, number of sessions and length.  A materials fee may be included.  We would like to see artists earn around $25 an hour so set your fee and minimum number of students accordingly.  Instructors will receive 50% of the tuition.

Instructors must be a member of Mt. Airy Artist Garage prior to applying to teach.  In addition we ask that you fill out our application on the Web Site and email your Artist resume and prior teaching experience to Solomon Levy at Solomon.levy2@verizon.net.

Instructors who would like to teach children will have to fill out and submit two additional forms:

Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance Form (CY- 113)

Pennsylvania State Police Request for Criminal Record Check Form (SP4-164

These forms will be kept on file for the duration of the year.

Information about these forms and other use full information about this process can be found at:

www.dpw.state.pa.us/partnersproviders/childwelfare/003671038.htm

We hope to kick off our classes by having an open house workshop day in June.

We will promote our classes on our web site, at Mt. airy Day, and Art Jam in June as well as any Art Garage Market Days that we have.  Press releases, fliers and word of mouth will be a great help as well. Once approved, MAAG will advertise its offered classes but it is requested that instructors promote their own classes.  It will take a couple of rounds of classes for ours and your reputation to develop as a place to come for art instruction.

If you have any questions please contact Sol Levy at the email above.
