Call for Proposals: Rent the Sol Levy Gallery in 2023
Do you have an idea for an art show and want to rent our gallery?
Mt. Airy Art Garage (MAAG) is pleased to offer the Solomon Levy Gallery for solo and group exhibitions in 2023. Artists, curators, and artist groups are welcome. Art shows typically run for a month, but they may run for as little as a week.
The Solomon Levy Gallery offers approximately 300 square feet of exhibition space of 14 – 17 ft walls with 10 ft height. Art Shows at the Solomon Levy Gallery are free of charge to attend and open to the public. They are designed to give artists of all experience levels an opportunity to display their work in a professional setting, and they offer the Philadelphia community an opportunity to view the work of local artists. The gallery is open Wednesday – Saturday, 12 – 6 p.m., Sunday 12 – 5 p.m.
To submit an art show proposal, download the Art Show Proposal Application and send with its accompanying files to [email protected]. Proposals may also be delivered by mail or in person on a USB flash drive or in printed form to: Mt. Airy Art Garage, 7054 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19119. Proposals will only be considered upon receipt of ALL materials.
The deadline is December 15, 2022.
Notification of accepted proposals are sent out in early January 2023.

Artwork Criteria
MAAG welcomes all artists, from emerging to professional. We also strive for excellence and professionalism in presenting artwork; therefore, all work must be professionally presented and properly finished.
- All works of art must be original and done by the artist.
- Many art forms will be considered, including (but not limited to) drawing, painting, collage, photography, sculpture, textile, ceramic, and mixed media.
- All 2D artwork must be framed and ready to hang. People submitting sculpture or other 3D art, will need to provide their own pedestals.
- Each piece of art is to be no larger than 4 feet high nor larger than 4 feet wide.
- MAAG does have insurance on exhibited works, which covers the costs of the materials only. All work is insured only for the duration of the show. Any pieces not picked up after the art show closes are not insured.
Gallery Preparation and Rules
- MAAG will assure that the gallery walls are clean and “hang ready.”
- The curator/artist(s) will hang the art show, with MAAG staff supervision, within 5 to 2 days before the opening date.
- The curator/artist(s) will provide printed labels and/or a printed price list. They will include the title, medium, size, and price for each piece of art in the show.
- Artwork must remain in the gallery for the duration of the show.
- The curator/artist(s)may not change the color of the gallery walls.
- The curator/artist(s) may not physically alter the floor of the gallery in a nearly permanent way.
- MAAG reserves the right to reject work at installation if that work is markedly different from that proposed. MAAG may also remove work that it deems a hazard to the facility or its guests.
- After the show closes, the curator/artist(s) will fill nail holes and repair any damage to the gallery.
Publicity/Marketing Rules and Responsibilities
- The curator/artist(s) is responsible for promoting/marketing the art show.
- The curator/artist(s) will provide MAAG with image files, logos, etc. related to the art show.
- If the curator/artist(s) doesn’t have a proposed design, MAAG will design and print postcards.
- MAAG will promote the art show through its website, e-newsletter, and social media.
- For Solo Artist Shows, MAAG will assign a small “Featured Artist” area inside or just outside the gallery to sell merchandise.
Sale of Artwork
- All art must be for sale.
- MAAG is responsible for processing all sales related to the show.
- MAAG takes a 35% commission on all sales.
- Sold artwork may be picked up after the show has closed and not before.
Gallery Rental Fee
- Up to 1 month $500
- 1 week or less $250 minimum
All fees must be paid no later than 3 months prior to the opening date of the show.
Payment options:
- PayPal. Visit the MAAG website and on the menu bar under “Join/Donate,” select DONATE. In the PayPal window, write that it is for the Art Show fee.
- Credit card. Visit the MAAG Gift Shop to pay.
- Check. It may be mailed or delivered in person to MAAG.
Cancellation Policy
The curator/artist(s) must notify MAAG of any art show cancellation.
If MAAG is notified …

- 3 months prior to the opening date, no fee will be charged.
- 1 month prior to the opening date, 20% of the fee will be charged.
- Less than a month prior to the opening date, 100% of the fee will be charged.

Modifications to the cancellation policy are subject to the decision of MAAG and will be based on circumstances presented by the artist.
