“Sleeping Sally,” fused glass portrait

I’m inspired by abstract artists (Kandinsky), Michael and Frances Higgins (fused glass pioneers), Wabi-sabi (Japanese world view) and nature. I hope that each piece I create will make someone laugh, smile and feel more at peace.

After 20 years in the computer science industry, I am exploring my passion for glasswork, especially fused glass, which is my favorite of the different forms — glass blowing, bead making, etc. My passion sparked in 1998 while taking a glass arts survey class, and afterwards I studied glass fusing and bead making at the Craft Alliance in Saint Louis, Missouri, with Leslie Leipziger (Grasshopper Studio). I also took several classes in clay (hand building) to compliment my glasswork. While at the Craft Alliance, I taught the adult glass fusing classes. Later, I continued my glass fusing studies at the Talisman Glass Studio in Chicago, Illinois, and Urban Glass in Brooklyn, New York, under world-renowned glass artists Avery Anderson and Brook Craig.

As well as my involvement with the Mt. Airy Art Garage in Philadelphia, I have been a member of Art St. Louis and a juried member of both the Greater St. Louis Art Association and Craftsmen’s Guild of Pittsburgh. As of 2003, I live in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, selling my art in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Cleveland, Ohio.

Sleeping Sally is a delightful portrait of fused glass with 5 “bud vase” slots, so she comes with a small water bottle.
